What did I learn?
practice what I teach :D
Often throughout class you may have heard me share the Yamas (Universal principles) and Niyamas (Individual precepts) of yoga. It was time for me to dive deeper into living the five Niyamas.
Saucha - Clarity, purity, cleanliness - There was a purge of many personal belongings, both old and new. The many, many yoga props were destroyed. Many have asked about the beautiful, helpful yoga wall. We will try to salvage it however it will be determined as the rebuild begins. The time to reflect of the clarity, purity and cleanliness of my soul.
Santosha - Contentment - It would not be fair to state, I was truly happy throughout this ordeal. Initially, I grasped onto the idea that it could all be replaced and gratefully no one was injured. However, throughout the past weeks, there were times I felt sad, uncertain, and deflated. Each time I nurtured the important quality of gratitude it helped me connect with contentment. The questions once again returned - Who Am I? Why Am I Here? Where Am I Going?
Tapas - Work, discipline, fire and effort - Once again, I found myself reaching into my “tool box” to help me dive deeper during these days. The “tools” I teach many others to utilize when “life happens”. Is it easy, honestly no. It is a huge effort and discipline daily to know and accept I am exactly where I am supposed to be at this precious moment.
Svadyaya - Self study - This circumstance made me STOP instantly once again. It offered me the time to sit and reflect to witness myself, pause, listen and submerge into my soul. I recognize this was needed since each day melds into another and life quickly passes one by.
Ishvara Pranidhana - Surrender, service to something bigger - I truly believe this was a purifying experience for me. I trust, believe and surrender that this is guiding me to my next step in life. I picked up Aadil’s book once again as I began with the first chapter, Dharma (purpose). The beauty, mystical, magical path we call life.
Ed and I are truly grateful (too much to list) for all the abundance in our lives especially having heat and hot water now. The rebuild should begin soon. I will keep you updated. Please continue to practice and live your yoga even if you have not been on the mat. Until …..
